Delete your Matchbox account

In the app

1. Open the Matchbox app and go to Settings.
2. Tap your Matchbox, or Account if no Matchbox is paired.
3. Under Account, tap Delete Account…
4. Enter your password if your account has one, and confirm.

By email

Write to malik@staytethered.app and tell us the email address your account uses. If you signed in with Apple and chose to hide your email, that is the private relay address Apple made for you, which your Apple ID settings show. We may ask you to confirm the request from that address. We’ll delete the account and tell you when it’s done.

What is deleted

• your account: its email address, the hash of your password, and your sign-in sessions;
• any password-reset codes, and the Apple or Google account identifier if you signed in with one;
• the link between your account and your Matchbox, which is released, and the settings our service held for it.

If you signed in with Apple, we also tell Apple to end your Apple sign-in to Matchbox where our service holds Apple’s key. You can always end it yourself in your Apple ID settings, under Sign in with Apple.

What is kept, and for how long

• Server logs that mention your account’s email address are deleted within 14 days.
• Backups that still hold your account are deleted after about 35 days.
• Your Matchbox’s history, the records it sent about what it showed and how it ran, is kept against the Matchbox rather than your account, and runs out after 30 days.
• A report you emailed us is kept only until the problem it was about is closed. Ask, and we’ll delete it sooner.

Our service also keeps a list of which club each Matchbox follows, so it knows which matches to fetch. Once your account is deleted, your Matchbox drops off that list within a few checks, and out of our backups after about 35 days. Our privacy policy has the full details.

Your Matchbox

The Matchbox itself keeps playing on what it already has (its other settings until it restarts, and its club until it is factory-reset) until someone pairs it again. To clear it before passing it on, factory-reset it: hold both buttons on the back as you plug it in, for ten seconds. A factory reset on its own does not delete your account or release the Matchbox from it, so delete the account too, or ask us to release the Matchbox.
